Ridiculous or Not?

I think definitely ridiculous. But first! Let me give ya'll the skinny! So, Justin Beiber, he has flippy hair with highlights, that i'm quite sure he gets re-done on a regular basis. He also happens to have such a high voice many people, including myself, thought he was a girl when they first heard his first single. But now for the cherry on top! HE'S COMING OUT WITH HIS OWN NAIL POLISH LINE!!!!! AND! The color titles will be named after his hit singles! What normal young boy, who is straight, has a nail polish line?!?!?! Does this seem odd to anyone else? Also, he is starring as himself in a movie about his life...

Uhm hello........he looks like a girl!!
What do you think?

I don't know about you guys....

But i am freezing my balls off! This weather is insane!

On other topics, i had an amazing time in FL. The weather was warm and sunny, and there was good food and good people! Nuff' said.
Coming back home to frosty NY, not so much fun. (As you can imagine, i've already broken out the wool scarf, and though this photo is from this time last year, im thinking, that hair color might be just what i need...) Regular posting will begin again week after next, as soon as my hair stops falling out from the stress of finals!

Hope ya'll can stay warm!

Any one looking for winterboots?

Well, have I got news for you! I just found the greatest little shop called Spirocreations! They specialize in making hand made leather/suede boots! Just like moccasins, except you can customize them! They come in a variety of colors in leather or suede, also you can choose the kind of details you want on them! They are a bit pricey, but for durable boots with faux sheep lining, where you get to choose the size and detail, i'd say it's totally worth it! I want these! But in brown, not pink:) I'm saving up my money right now, im gonna get me a pair of these babies!

Happy Hump day!
Only two more days left till the weekend!

Pink Studio, you are so rad!

As we have all noticed, I'm sure, autumn is setting in and it is the perfect season to bust out your boots! Now, I love shoes, LOVE THEM!, but nothing excites me more than adding a new pair of boots to my collection. As it stands right now, I've got some motorcycle ankle boots, some peep toe heel booties, and a couple pairs of Eskimo boots. I have quite a few, but for some reason i can't stop looking for new ones! Plus, I've always wanted a pair of Victorian-esque boots, and who wouldn't just scream for some riding boots? So as i was perusing along the internet, i found a little shop called Pink Studio. I tell you, their shoes are to die for! They are a bit expensive, but excellent quality, they would last forever! (I'm sure you can tell I'm convincing myself that i need a pair!)

Go ahead ladies, treat yourselves!
Happy Thursday, Xx Kalika

In love, love, love!

As i was perusing the "accessories" section of etsy, i cam across the CUTEST hair clip! naturally it was my favorite, Hello Kitty, and only .95 cents! How can you resist! So i went to view more from the shop and she's got TONS of great stuff and all very reasonably priced. And better yet, they are all handmade! So no two clips are the same! How awesome is that! These are some of my favorites:

Blue Bird Felt Hairclip, $1.5o

Pink Hello Kitty Hair Clip $1.25

Pink and Yellow Polka Dot Hair Clip $1.75

Do you like what you see? Check out the HairClip Shop. What are some of your favorites?

Secrets

Every Monday morning i drag myself to school (much too early in the morning) and i think to myself, "ughh mondays" Mondays are awful, after a free weekend we all have to pull ourselves by our bootstraps and get back to bed on time and ready for work/school/whatever the next morning. Now, this may be bad of me, but once i discovered Postsecret.com i began making it my monday morning ritual. Because reading about others and the struggles that they are going through, makes my day seem like cake. That might sound mean, but i don't read it in a "haha, sucks for you" kind of way, but more as a "wow, i should be really grateful for the life that i have" And now that I've been doing it so long it's sort of become my guilty pleasure, along with watching like a 100 hours of Gossip Girl (i can't help it!) So tell me, do you have any guilty pleasures?

Xx, Happy tuesday:)

Hello Kitty, You rock my world

I am obsessed with Hello Kitty, i have been ever since i was the tender age of seven. She's just the cutest little kitty!! So, when i was in the Bon-Ton with my almost sister Nicole, who also is a HUGE fan of kitty, we just about died when we saw a Hello Kitty SALE booth from across the sales floor! They had Kitty Everything! HK pillows, and little purses and robs, slippers, stuffed animals, EVERYTHING! (All for little girls of course, apparently grown ups can't love her too) Anyway! We walked over and almost immediately a frenzy ensued, and Nik had the brilliant idea to put the Hello Kitty pillows over our faces as masks!!!!!! So we snap some photo's of us as HK and bada-bing bada-boom, we've got ourselves a DIY halloween costume!!! (seen left) Don't you love it!!? All you need are: Charaqcter pillow, matching thread, needle, and elastic.
Fit the elastice over your head, cut to correct length, and pin. Then beginning sewing a loose-ish cross stitch, tie not and snip! You're done! So tell me guys! What are your favorite childhood characters!? Rainbowbrite, and Carebear's anyone!?

Hello Kitty Drives!!!

Have a lovely Wednesday! Thanks for reading!

Hello Again...

Have you guys ever noticed that you can't search blog types? What i mean is, i am interested in art/fashion blogs specifically, and every time i go wadding through the sea of blogs all i come up with are ladies in their mid fifties blogging about their grandchildren. Come on Blogger!I do not want to wade through endless baby pictures! I want to be able to search through categories! I wanna see what i care about! No offense, baby bloggers, your kids are cute and all, but that is just not my thing. And I'm sure there are some of you out there who feel the same way! It's annoying when you can't find what your looking for isn't it!

One a much kinder note, I've been M.I.A lately due to this fun new thing called college. I have learned so much stuff about photography i almost can't remember it all! Anyways the point to this little post is to formally introduce my inspiration. His name is Henry Cartier-Bresson. This is some of his work.

Love, Kalika

A new beginning

So, I've decided i am going to try something new. That new thing is......drum roll.........I am going to start and complete a painting every week! Unless i run out of canvas! I've decided that since i spent all year complaining about the assignments given to me, saying that to me true art comes from inside my mind, not some copy of a picture i took, that i am going to put myself to the test and see what my creative side comes up with! And of course i will be posting pictures of said paintings every week!

Love Kalika

p.s! i took that photo of the little cow eraser during my graduation ceremony, it was handed to our principal when my friend shook her hand, its high time they remembered the art students need and not just the damn football team!

Tell me true...

If you saw this in a magazine as an ad for, let's say Tiffany& Co., would you stop and look? Consider the company for a moment? Would the picture stand out to you?

Hippie 101

Today is a lovely sunny day, and i just felt like dressing free and wild:) So i dug out my springy clothes and opted for a Pink Floyd T (stolen from my boyfriend, naturally:) and voile hippie nation:) I'm just loving it, alot alot alot:) So here's some pointers for the hippie-esque look:)

1: forget about matching, if the colors go, or even if they don't, your good.

2:if its old and maybe has a hole or two, doesn't matter. work with it.

3. gor for natural makeup, and mussed hair&go:)

Hope your all enjoying you sunny friday!

DIY vintage hair!

Summer is almost here! (finally!) And since we all know vintage hair is coming back into style, so i spent yesterday evening figuring new hair styles, and i discovered something i thought was really neat(seen to the right) And i just fell in love with it! So if you are as interested as I am, here's how ya do it!!

DIY

First: You may want to start with some texture in your hair, also known as not washing it this morning:)

Then: Pull all your hair over one shoulder, whichever side you prefer. Get a comb and a little bit of some gentle hair spray. Pull one larg section of bangs at the front of your head, braiding the front most part under so you don't get the funny bump. Continue on down allll the way to the ends of your hair making sure you pull hair in at every section, a simple frontal french braid if you are not familiar with french braiding, just youtube it it's pretty simple. ALSO: this may not work if your hair is short or has a lot of short layers, but im sure you can do something similar, just play around with it.

After the braid is finished make sure you spray down alll the loose little flyaways and make sure the braid is secure.

Then: Twist the end of the braid and twirl up around your chin area just under the ear. Pin in place (this may take a few tries before it looks good, just keep trying you'll get there!)

After the braid/bun is in place insert any vintage style head band or fashionable bobby pins, spray all over once more and go! (also make sure your bangs are tucked in! I forgot before i took the picture!)

Remember to have fun with it, i mean it took me a half hour to get the braid right, just have keep trying! The end result is so worth it!

Have a great day, guys:)

A day at the puppy park

I have a puppy, obviously as I'm sure my three readers all know, anyways she's about a year old, and my boyfriend and i took her to the park the other day. It's a cute little place with a nice playground. My pup, my man, and i walk along, and we see this HUGE! (huge!!) Labrador coming along. So my four pound toy Pomeranian walks right up to this lab (who's owner asks if we want to socialize and tells her pup to sit) and crawls right up on him and shoves her tiny snout in his giant ear, sniffing around. This lab was so amazing! It didn't even flinch, he was so well behaved he didn't need a leash he just sat and stayed put! Even while Lily was sniffing around him! Amazing! Hopefully the next time we go we can socialize her a bit more, maybe one day she'll be good like that giant Lab! Have a wonderful Monday:)

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes!

So a few weeks a go i was out shopping with my lovely boyfriend. (who never fails to come with me even when its for clothes! and he's always honest:) So any way we're out shopping from store to store and whilst working on limited funds i needed a new outfit. It's just an itch i get every once in while, so to quench it i went out to browse and got a ton of cute stuff, and total cost was around $45! So not kidding! (the above is my outfit:) I got three pair of earrings and a beaded cuff bracelet from Charlotte Russe, for $8! I also got the gorgeous dress i'm wearing from Charlotte for only $26! And it came with the belt!! (what a deal! I LOVE belts!!) So that's thirty four dollars, but i still needed shoes! I mean whats a shopping trip without shoes!?!? (not a very good one I'd say!) So we head over to Rue 21 because there was a most gorgeous pair of flowered wedges that I'd been stalking and wanted to see if they were on sale yet. Well i mean at the time it was wishful thinking because id been there two days before (nope, I'm serious i really was ha ha!) So we go in and i go over to the accessories dept and i see the shoes on the $10 wall! Like holy poo these shoes i was in love with are only 10 dollars! Talk about a dream right!?!?!!? I mean i am so stingy with money i hate spending it! My boyfriend had to make me buy the dress because I'm so cheap i don't spend over $12 bucks on ANYTHING! (except bras!) So i snatch u those shoes (the last pair in my size!) and i hightail it to the cashier and i got em! And the good news was the go perfectly with the dress:) So shop Charlotte Russe & Rue 21! You'll get all the good stuff for less than half the price! Have a sunny Monday:) & Thanks for reading!
Shoes:):) Make me happy!

Today is a day to be sad

I've been taking a Design in clay class since this semester started. (it's like an intro into clay) And I've been loving it! It's the best class, who doesn't wanna play in the clay for 80 minutes?!?! So when we finally were assigned and animal block project (making an object from one hunk, not attaching pieces) no one was more excited than me! I was making a Sea turtle! A very big, very detailed sea turtle. I've spent the last month working on it, pulling the edges out draping the shell just right, and then letting it dry and etching in wrinkles on the neck, putting in the face details (it looks like crush from finding nemo) and etching the shell detail onto the head, legs and feet, and shell (which took forever) Finally finished it got put into the kiln (after i made holes for all air to escape, there were absolutely NO air bubbles)and after a slow firing for about 12 hours, the kiln began to cool down, and i was so very excited.
During my lunch period, my clay teacher came looking for me, said she had some bad news. I thought it was about my photo's not making it into the district catalog,so i asked and she covered her face in her hands and i knew, i said "is it my turtle?" and she nodded and led me to the kiln. I peeked inside and saw complete devastation, the biggest piece was no larger than a quarter. And mind you, this turtle was HUGE very big bigger than my dog.(see my art portfolio, click the link at the top of the page) It was horrid, and plus whatever else was in there with my turtle was gone too. We have no idea why it happened, either. I know i know it sounds crazy, whats the big deal its just a turtle. But my friends, this turtle was my baby (not in a crazy way) i worked so hard on that and it was so EPIC i was about to get a one hundred, i was going to paint sun and moon and stars on its back and the tree of life (ironic now huh?) and now i can't! And so, today is a day to mourn the loss of crush, the best damn clay sea turtle ever in existence. :( The above picture is from the first week of the project, i was just starting his face.

sunshine on a rainy day!

Good evening! I hope everyone had an interesting day, because i sure did! The start wasn't the best(of course when you have to get up at 7 am and be ready by 8 it never is!)I was under the impression that i was going to some, i don't know, indoor flea market of sorts. So of course i break out in my usual fashion, cute casual dress&light cardigan & really cute wedges, because, despite the dreary weather, i know it's an indoor thing, so rain doesn't matter. Things change, however, when my boyfriend comes over as im putting on my makeup, and he says "Mom say's you might wanna bring a pair of regular shoes cause she doesn't know where we're parking and it might be muddy." So i say okay great, and thankfully(!!!) i decide that my sneakers are suitable& cute with my outfit because they match, and changing shoes a dozen times is a hassle. So off we go to his house to meet his mom and her boyfriend to head off to the market. As we get in the car Jesse (my boyfriend) asks his mom how far it is to the festival and Dean (his mom's boyfriend) answers about forty minutes. So, naturally my attention is sparked, and i ask, where exactly are we going and what will we be doing. Much to my dismay (at first) i discover that we're going to the Troy Fair! An outdoor thing! And my silly boy lets me just walk outside in my short dress (and i mean short! Above the knee an inch or two) and no jacket! How crazy is he!?!? (right?) So i say, okay well it'll be fine! I'll manage it can't be too bad. To my delight it was pretty great! We got a delicious breakfast and real maple syrup (not that aunt jemima high fructose corn syrup crap)and then Jess and i head off to check out the stalls where vendors are selling handmade goods. NOW, this is where it gets good! I come across this one stall, manned by a young girl. What drew my eye were these Coca-Cola dangly earings. So i go over and look and there's a sign that says "All Jewelry made from recycled materials" Even the tags on the jewelry was recycled (how cool is that!?!?!) So anyway she and i get to talking and i ask her about her materials and she tells me this gorgeous flower bracelet was made out of a milk jug. A milk jug! She tells me that she just cleans them really well, and lays them out flat, draws on them, and cuts it out! I know, i'm so excited, but i think that's just a great way to recycle! And all her stuff was SO cute! (i will post pictures!) The best part was that they're reasonably priced! When i find her card, ill put up the link to her website so y'all can check it out!

The mouths of Babes!

Today, after some hard work removing paintings and things from our old house, sitting outside among the breeze, my 2 year old niece see's a squirrel in a tree. Now, being a two year old, she is obsessed with Alvin and The Chipmunks, so, naturally she thinks the squirrel is a chipmunk. So she scampers off to the tree and introduces her self as such "Hi Chipmunk! I'm Kyli Re!" A few minutes prior to this little outburst, she was afraid of a bee flying just above her little golden locks. After my mom explained that the bee just thinks she's a flower she said "Go away bee, I'm not a flower! I'm Kyli Re!" It just reminded me that sometimes the most precious things in life, are the most ridiculous! (ridiculously funny that is, everybody was rolling!)It's a gorgeous day out there, so go out and soak up some vitamin d! Have a lovely day!

Adventures in a dollar store

A few weeks ago, my mother and i moved into a new apartment. Aside from the initial excitement i was a tad concerned about the lack of lighting in my room. So, naturally, whilst looking for random house necessities, we went to the dollar store! (A place i like to frequent because you never know what kind of useful things you'll find) While we were shopping, She saw these adorable Chinese paper lanterns, and suggested we hang them outside on our porch area. We picked out two green ones and later went home and set them up. (they are awesome!) Later, though i got to thinking that it might be a clever (and cheap!) way to decorate my room, a few days later we went back to purchase ten more! Five blue, and five green to match my color scheme. While there we got this neat little kit that has all sorts of handy things, including hook screws. And so gathering the help of my boyfriend, and a close girlfriend the lights were put up and the batteries set in, and now i have a bit of extra light in my room whenever i want it! So if you happen to be looking for a unique, but not pricey way to redecorate, have a look at your local dollar store! You might find just what your looking for!
